What software is featured in The Social Network movie?
In "The Social Network", Mark Zuckerberg is creating Facemash and is hacking the online facebooks and downloading them using a script, then he monitors the traffic to the host server.
I know he was using KDE 3 as an interface and have researched that he was monitoring traffic by using the command " tail -f " but I don't know what program he was running that command on.
Does anyone know the software he was using to-
- Monitor the traffic and run the command: tail -f (to see the screenshot: http://oi53.tinypic.com/2im8baq.jpg)
- Create the Perl script to automatically download the images form the houses' facebooks to use on facemash.com?
It would be greatly appreciated. :)
I cannot be 100% sure but I think it was Unicode in an attempt to run a parser if that helps

Has anyone else notice this Google Traffic problem?
When I use google to search, like when I went to search for Final Fantasy Tactics and I sometimes get this message telling me to type in characters in a box from an image above and underneath there's a message that says:
"About this page
Our systems have detected unusual traffic from your computer network. This page checks to see if it's really you sending the requests, and not a robot. Why did this happen?
This page appears when Google automatically detects requests coming from your computer network which appear to be in violation of the Terms of Service. The block will expire shortly after those requests stop. In the meantime, solving the above CAPTCHA will let you continue to use our services.
This traffic may have been sent by malicious software, a browser plug-in, or a script that sends automated requests. If you share your network connection, ask your administrator for help — a different computer using the same IP address may be responsible. Learn more
Sometimes you may be asked to solve the CAPTCHA if you are using advanced terms that robots are known to use, or sending requests very quickly.

Does this mean that my internet was hacked or something? Because I have never gotten a message like this when I've used google before! And if I have been hacked or something, then what should I do to fix it?
it's not just you, it is a widespread problem for a lot of people lately. I too have been getting that message a few times a day for the past month out of nowhere. My laptop has no viruses or spyware, I do not search constantly (sometimes I get it after first turning on the laptop after being turned off all day even). So I dont know what it is, and so far there aren't any solutions yet. I notice the IP address it gave on your result was also one it gave me a few times, which is from the ISP "Level 3 Communications". Its as if there is a major internet routing problem going on because so many people are being reported as using the same IP address all over the country. There are tons of people searching online for a cause but no answers from Google.
Ok read this at the mean question belowe this and tell me what did it meen slowe upload speed?
If the image quality is poor while transmitting video over the Internet using video enabled programs such as MSN Messenger, Yahoo! or AOL Instant Messenger, your connection speed to the Internet directly affects the image quality of the transmitted video. Corporate LAN, DSL/cable modem connections will result in the best image quality experience, while dial-up connections may result in choppy and overall poor quality because of the slower connection speed. Even broadband connections such as DSL/cable modem may experience choppy video at times because of Internet traffic or slow upload speeds. If the image appears clearly in the camera software, most likely your Internet connection may be responsible for the poor image quality in your video program.
Most DSL lines have very high DOWNLOAD speeds, that means things coming into your computer are very fast. However, most also have limited "upload speeds" -- the speed you send data out to the internet. With a web cam the outbound or "upload speed" is critical. If that speed is too low your images will be degraded due the the "outbound" speed of the webcam signal. Some typical DSL speeds are 1.5M download / 256 upload or 3M download / 384 upload etc so you see that the outbound data from your machine is MUCH slower than the information you receive. If it is too slow, the "viewer" of your webcam over the internet will get a "choppy" picture.

QuickCam® Orbit™ MP and what did it meen when it said slow upload speeds
I will use myself as an example. I have a wireless connection on my pc. I am pretty far from my signal and often my signal is weak. I also share this connection with my friend. My speed is a bit slow at times. When I cam and chat with another friend of mine - the picture i see of his cam is pretty bad and jumpy, sometimes even stops for a min. This is because I have slow upload speed of the images being sent over the internet. I know that his cam is fine, and as a tech, i know this is because of my connection.
